[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=””]

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=””]

[/fusion_li_item][fusion_li_item icon=””]

Is it really inconvenient to bring your own cup, instead of using a single use cup? It only takes a little planning. One strategy is to buy really nice expensive coffee cups, for all the places you spend time: home, office and car. Consider whether the coffee cup can fit, when buying a handbag. Buy glam coffee cups, that are spill resistant, so that they become an accessory and won’t cause havoc in your bag. Buy an expensive cup, like a Marimekko design cup that cost €12, add some sparkle to your day with a silver sparkly cup, or buy a Starbucks steel coffee cup for outings. If it looks nice, and performs well, you will want to take it with you.

Apparently, this type of planning behaviour is still too rare of a behavior among the general public. Research has shown that consumers are still extremely lazy about their environmental choices, and single use plastics are expected to soar by a third by 2030.1 These plastic products are almost entirely about convenience, which is why it is so hard to dissuade consumers from their use.[/fusion_text][/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”2_5″ layout=”2_5″ spacing=”” center_content=”no” link=”” target=”_self” min_height=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”left top” undefined=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” hover_type=”none” border_size=”0″ border_color=”” border_style=”solid” border_position=”all” padding_top=”” padding_right=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=”” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”0px” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” last=”no”][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container][fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”no” hundred_percent_height=”no” hundred_percent_height_scroll=”no” hundred_percent_height_center_content=”yes” equal_height_columns=”no” menu_anchor=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”center center” background_repeat=”no-repeat” fade=”no” background_parallax=”none” enable_mobile=”no” parallax_speed=”0.3″ video_mp4=”” video_webm=”” video_ogv=”” video_url=”” video_aspect_ratio=”16:9″ video_loop=”yes” video_mute=”yes” video_preview_image=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” margin_top=”” margin_bottom=”” padding_top=”40px” padding_right=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=””][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ layout=”1_1″ spacing=”” center_content=”no” link=”” target=”_self” min_height=”” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_position=”left top” background_repeat=”no-repeat” hover_type=”none” border_size=”0″ border_color=”” border_style=”solid” border_position=”all” padding_top=”” padding_right=”” padding_bottom=”” padding_left=”” dimension_margin=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=”” last=”no”][fusion_imageframe image_id=”8130″ max_width=”80px” style_type=”none” stylecolor=”” hover_type=”none” bordersize=”” bordercolor=”” borderradius=”” align=”center” lightbox=”no” gallery_id=”” lightbox_image=”” alt=”” link=”” linktarget=”_self” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_direction=”left” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_offset=””]https://www.earthsquad.global/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/plustic-pollution.png[/fusion_imageframe][fusion_separator style_type=”none” hide_on_mobile=”small-visibility,medium-visibility,large-visibility” class=”” id=”” sep_color=”” top_margin=”10px” bottom_margin=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”center” /][fusion_text columns=”” column_min_width=”” column_spacing=”” rule_style=”default” rule_size=”” rule_color=”” class=”” id=””]

In response to the growing plastic pollution crisis, governments will have to step in to institute bans on different types of plastic products. Britain announced that it plans to ban the sale of single use plastic straws, with Canada and other jurisdictions following suit.3 However, most analysts agree that this is not enough. Rob Opsomer of the Ellen MacArthur Foundation says: “We cannot stop at straws. We need to rethink the entire plastics industry.”4

Most of the plastic waste comes from the convenience foods industry, such as take-away meals and prepared foods. In lieu of a total ban on single use plastics, such as is being considered in Rwanda, the UK government is considering a levy on disposable cups and other single use plastic products.5 This May, the European Commission announced a proposal to ban single use plastics such as cotton buds and plastic straws, replacing them with more environmentally sustainable materials. The proposal also requires EU countries to collect 90 percent of single use plastic drink bottles by 2025.6 These are all steps in the right direction, but may still be too little to end the plastics scourge in our oceans and landfills.
